Blog o’ the Week: Daring Fireball

This week’s Blog o’ the Week medal goes to Daring Fireball. It’s run by John Gruber, who updates very frequently, and touches on everything Apple (the blog’s subtitle is “Mac nerdery, etc.”). He also manages to squeeze in a bit of pop culture, media news and baseball talk, all of which are close to my heart (even if John is a Yankees fan *shudder*). Well worth reading you use a Mac or are interested in the web.

Also in Apple news, Vancouver’s Apple Store is pretty much fait accompli (as reported here). Check out Apple’s job site and you can see all sorts of postings for a Pacific Centre store. One can assume that they’ll take over some of the space vacated by Holt & Renfrew’s move to the north side of Dunsmuir. Boy, H & M and an Apple Store: maybe the mall will be cool in 2008 (um, probably not).

While this is (super) exciting for Mac users in Van city, and for those looking for what amounts to a free all-Mac internet cafe without coffee, it does make me sympathetic to Mac StationSimply ComputingWestworld and Mac Market, all local Mac retailers who (with the possible exception of Mac Market who specialise in used hardware) are going to have a real tough time competing. We’ll see.
