Reflecting on our Project with Church and State Wines

The Presentation

This project was a great learning experience for me and I feel that we really provided a lot of value to our client. In the short timeframe that we had, we managed to increase Facebook reach by approximately 300% and actually create a post with the highest organic reach and engagement in the history of their Facebook page. Our presentation to the client went well and I feel that the takeaways that had the most impact with him were:

  • Email marketing has a very high conversion rate for them and A-B testing should be continued to fully capitalize on the effectiveness
  • Increased activity with a focus on educational/entertaining content exposes the brand to a lot of new people
    • Retweets, likes, shares etc. all increase the reach so the goal should be engagement
  • Google Analytics should be used more to help optimize the website and to monitor and improve the conversion rate

Our client is happy with our work and plans to keep the ball rolling and really utilize the strategies that we implemented. It will be interesting to see how the company’s digital strategy changes over the next year.

At the last minute we shortened the presentation as we had a ton of information and it was looking like it would take 60-90 minutes to present it all. We decided that it would be difficult for our client to digest that much information so we focused on the key points and provided them with the PowerPoint deck and our report so that they could use it as a reference guide.

My Key Takeaways

This project was really interesting for me as I have a bit of experience with internet marketing due to an e-commerce site that I started. When I launched the site, I experimented a lot with different strategies and really learned by doing, even though I made a ton of mistakes along the way. In the future, I definitely plan to launch other ventures and I feel much more prepared now that I have taken this course. I am confident that with a good product, I can utilize what I have learned and really grow the brand.

  • Do not neglect email marketing!
    • Having a list of subscribers and really crafting strong, targeted email marketing campaign can pay huge dividends
  • Do not push the product…provide value and build a community instead
  • Reach out to influencers
  • Before investing in PPC or other versions of paid advertising, really analyze the ROI to determine if it is worth it
  • Build a community by focusing on interaction and utilizing calls to action
