He has published seventeen books of poetry and scholarship, always with a focus on creativity, the arts, and education. He daily seeks to know the heart of living poetically.

Lee Beavington is a doctoral candidate and SSHRC scholar in Philosophy of Education at SFU. He is also an author, photographer, and instructor for KPU’s Amazon Field School. Philosophy, poetry, sakura and the ocean all figure into Kate’s  doctoral research into the phenomena of illness and impermanence.  Woven within this study is work at the Creative Minds Early Learning Centre that she founded in 1982, being with the children and parents at the Jericho centre, and teaching adults who want to be early childhood educators.

My research interests encompass place-based, nature-baed, indigenous, and imaginative education. I am also an active user of Esperanto and have worked on various aspects of language ecology, particularly indigenous language revitalization and various aspects of linguistic justice and sustainable multilingualism. Poetry is important to me.

Amber Moore is a PhD student at the University of British Columbia studying language and literacy education with the Faculty of Education. Her research interests include adolescent literacy, trauma literature, and exploring gender and sexualities issues in school. She also enjoys writing poetry and creative nonfiction.

Claire Ahn is a doctoral candidate in LLED at UBC. Prior to graduate studies she was a high school English teacher in Alberta. Her research interests include: visual literacy, visual rhetoric, film, teacher education, and environmental education. Her current research examines the visual rhetorical modes in environmental documentaries and how they engender an awareness and possibly a willingness to act in more eco-conscious ways.

Margaret is an outdoor educator, poet and doctoral candidate in language and literacy education at the University of British Columbia. A person of Euro-settler ancestry, for her research she is creating poetry and stories about land relationship and colonialism.

Kedrick James

Kedrick James is a Senior Instructor and Director of the Digital Literacy Centre in the Department of Language and Literacy Education at UBC. He is a professional artist, musician and poet whose arts-based practices explore the boundaries between environmental, social, and digital ecologies. His scholarship focuses on Poetic Inquiry, automation of literacy, place-based and alternative pedagogical approaches to literacy education. He has worked as an international arts festival director and as a gallery curator in Vancouver’s Downtown East Side. He is committed to ecological activism focusing on the Kootenay-Boundary region of Southern British Columbia.
