The Second Post in Term One

  1. Practice Reading Aloud
  • Students will bring their red Chinese duotang back home every Friday. It’s suggested that they spend about 5 minutes reviewing chants below per day during weekend .
  • Please remind your child to bring the duotang back to school on the first school day after weekends. This week is next Tuesday as next Monday is a holiday.

  • Little White Rabbit 小白兔
  • Riddle 谜语
  • One Frog 一只青蛙

2. Prepare for Radical Dictation

  • Radicals in Chinese characters are like roots in English words. They bring specific meaning with them. For example, Radical 木 means tree or wooden. Therefore, you can always find radical 木 in names of trees, like 枫maple, 松pine, 杉fir.
  • Students will learn commonly used radicals this term, which will help them memorize or guess meaning of new characters in reading and writing.
  • The first dictation will be on Oct. 8 or 9.
  • Please refer to the radical list below.  The English meaning and Pinyin will be provided in this first time dictation.  Students are required to write the radicals that match the English meaning. There are two options. Foundation dictation is to test 10 radicals and challenge one is to test all 15 radicals. Radicals with * are foundation ones. Students can choose a test that suits for them.
