This year, we will spend a lot of time exploring our own selves and our understanding of Social Emotional Learning (SEL). Below is a short video that beautifully articulates what SEL might look and feel like in schools.
As we have introduced during our first month together, below are the visuals we have used as a reference for our understanding about Social Emotional Learning Competencies: Self Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills, and Responsible Decision-Making. These and the research behind them comes from CASEL (Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning). These are the foundation for our understanding of SEL this year. We aim to notice, name, and nurture these competencies in the classroom.
