Musculoskeletal Fitness Assessment

Musculoskeletal fitness is important in maintaining overall health as well as to improve athletic performance. Musculoskeletal fitness is an important part of a healthy lifestyle that includes muscular endurance, muscular strength, and muscular power. Muscular endurance is the ability of a muscle to repeatedly contract over a certain period of time. Muscular strength is the maximal force that can be produced by a muscle in one contraction. Muscular power is the ability of a muscle to produce a force quickly. Following the CPAFLA (The Canadian Physical Activity, Fitness & Lifestyle Approach) protocol, push ups and partial curl ups will be used to measure muscular endurance, grip strength will assess muscular strength, and vertical jump will measure muscular power. Push ups and partial curl ups are used because they are a reliable assessment of upper body strength endurance and trunk endurance. The hand grip dynamometer will be used to test grip strength, it involves clenching the grip while it measures force produced by the hand. The squat jump is used to measure the power of an individuals’ lower body power; the participant squats for several seconds before jumping as high as possible. All of these measures will be assessed and calculated to create an overall musculoskeletal health fitness score.

This test lasts around 30 minutes for most clients and after our staff will explain each score and how it related to their overall fitness profile. The test is $35 to run and can be done for larger sports teams/groups for a greater cost dependent on numbers, travel time and space allocation.
