Short Bio

I joined Google!

I received a PhD on Computer Engineering from UBC. I was a part of NetSysLab where I work with Prof. Matei Ripeanu. My research focuses on the characterization and design of online peer production systems such as peer-to-peer networks, collaborative tagging communities, and online social networks.

I am also glad to contribute to several other cool projects both at UBC (such as Totem) and elsewhere (in 2012, my advisor and I collaborated with BroadbandTV Corp. — a Vancouver-based startup — on designing tag recommendation solutions that draws directly from my thesis research).

Prior to joining UBC, I received a B.Sc. in Computer Science from the Universidade Federal de Alagoas and a M.Sc. in Computer Science from the Universidade Federal de Campina Grande, in Brazil. In the past, I have worked in a variety of projects related to distributed systems, including the OurGrid project (Campina Grande, PB, BRA), the Virtual Workspaces project at Argonne National Labs (Chicago, IL, USA), the Mobile Content-Casting project at Microsoft Research (Cambridge, GBR). More recently, I worked on other topics such as Online Ads, as a Software Engineer Intern at Google (Zurich, CHE — 2010; and Mountain View, CA, USA — 2012).
