My name is Michael Webb I am now completing my final year at the University of British Columbia, completing my degree in Human Geography, with particular interest in Economics and Commerce with many of these quantitative courses accompanying my degree. A highlight of my academic career was a research project done in collaboration with the City of Vancouver, the focus of which was on the issue of at home charging for electric vehicles in Vancouver, particularly in areas relying on street parking. My professional interests very much mirror my academic pursuits, in particular economic and geographical analysis. I have been able to gain professional experience through summer job opportunities; of particular interest were a research role at a small financial institution and a sales position at a larger company, servicing a number of retail locations varying in size from small convenient stores to larger commercial locations. Both of these jobs provided me to further explore my interests outside of the academic world. The research position allowed for me to apply the theory and the skills learned in the classroom. The sales position relied less on this and more on interpersonal skills and working with people, this was an appropriate change for as I enjoy working with people on a daily basis, which was not always available to me in previous employment. Outside of the professional and academic world I love sports and music, since moving to the West Coast my interests have shifted from team sports such as rugby and hockey to sports that take advantage of Vancouver’s surroundings such as biking and snowboarding.
