In ENGL 301 there were a number of written assignments, each one focusing on a different aspect of technical writing. I have included PDF links below along with descriptions of the assignments.
Definitions This assignment required choosing a technical term from our field of study and explain it to an audience without a background in that field. I chose the “gini coefficient” and provided a parenthetical, sentence and expanded definition. I learned how to adapt my language to explain a term to a different audience.
Formal Report Proposal I learned how to write a formal report proposal for increasing brand awareness among the large number of PepsiCo products in order to increase sales in all of their markets. The proposal gave me a the chance to examine how I would be moving forward with the research and the best way to then communicate the findings.
Complaint Letter and Adjustment LetterThe purpose of this assignment was to write a complaint letter regarding an issue that you had faced with this company’s product or service. In addition, I took on the role of the employee who read the complaint and provided a response for this complaint. I wrote to an online company where the product I ordered was not true to the sizing. I learned the importance of writing a complaint in a constructive manner, utilizing a “YOU” attitude ensuring the emphasis is placed on the reader.
