Memorandum
To: Dr. Erika Paterson
From: Hilton Ma
Date: November 13th, 2020
As per the ENGL 301 assignment guidelines, this is my progress report for the previously proposed formal report on licensing a 3D anatomy atlas software for UBC Okanagan health science students.
Audience:
Dr. Gordon Binsted, Dean & Faculty Head of Health and Social Development
Dr. Tanya Forneris, Health and Exercise Science Associate Director at UBC Okanagan
Dr. Greg DuManoir, Professor of Advanced Functional Anatomy at UBC Okanagan
Dr. Gina Whitaker, Current Professor of Functional Anatomy and Applied Physiology at UBC Okanagan
The listed parties are relevant to the proposal as they occupy the roles of leadership, or are directly influenced by the proposal. As both the professors, Dr. DuManoir and Dr. Whitaker, teach the anatomy courses, the courses they teach would be most directly affected. Dr. Forneris would be the administrative figure to authorize the licensing; while as the faculty head, Dr. Binsted should be notified of the decision.
Purpose:
The purpose of the investigation in this formal report is to determine whether a 3D anatomy software would bridge the gap in anatomy learning resources as a result of the COVID pandemic; as well as to determine which software may be appropriate.
Significance of Report:
Due to the current COVID pandemic, students studying anatomy are deprived of 3D anatomy models that would normally be available – leading to a superficial understanding of the course material. This proposal potentially alleviates this issue by identifying whether the addition of a 3D anatomy atlas software would be of assistance and which potential software license would be appropriate.
Research Plan:
- Problem:
- Identify if the lack of 3D anatomy models is affecting teaching and learning, as well as what 3D anatomy software may be appropriate to supplement
- Primary Research:
- Survey of Advanced Functional Anatomy students and teaching staff to identify their opinions on the adequacy of currently available learning resources without 3D models
- Interview of Advanced Functional Anatomy students and teaching staff to identify the potential impact of a virtual 3D anatomy software
- Secondary Data:
- Research on available 3D anatomy software, their functions, detail, interoperability, and licensing costs

Hello Hilton,
Thank you for posting your Progress Report – this looks good to go – but for one small necessary addition to the introduction to the survey. Please include the word ‘voluntary’ – re: your participation is voluntary and autonomous – thank you.
