I have reviewed the first draft of your formal report research proposal. Thank you for the excellent work and for completing the assignment on time. Please see the review of the document for specific comments and suggestions for improvements.

First Impressions:

Your proposal is very well-written and fulfills the criteria of the assignment. The document does a great job of outlining areas where business operations are lacking at De Dutch Pannekoek House Burrard Landing Branch, consequences of the problems, and how it can be improved.

Organization:

  • The document is organized and written in a logical manner
  • The format of the proposal is clear, the background information flows nicely into the description of the problem and the proposed solution
  • All headings are bolded and appropriately titled
  • Document ends with a nice conclusion that ties in the introduction and re-emphasizes the problem at hand

Introduction:

The introduction sets up the statement of your problem very efficiently and immediately introduces the recent changes in internal business operations. I would suggest adding a few sentences that introduces De Dutch Pannekoek House, separate from the problems it is currently facing. For example, indicating what type of restaurant it is, whether it is a franchise or mom-and-pop establishment, etc. This would help readers better understand the typical business model and resources available to restaurants of this caliber.

It is unclear from the introduction who the formal report is addressing; it would be a good idea to determine who has the authority to follow your recommendations and provide the names and positions of the people you are writing the report for.

Statement of Problem:

The problem at hand is described in a very detailed manner, making the problem easy to understand and very apparent to readers. Good job on providing several examples of the problem and getting the serious implications of these issues across to your readers. The last paragraph is very impactful as it summarizes how these changes can affect employees behaviour and performance in addition to morale.

Proposed Solution/Scope:

The solution is very clear as you state possible actions in the first sentence. Great idea to address the difficulties that the restaurant industry is facing during the COVID-19 pandemic and acknowledging how it can be a limiting factor to fixing the current problem.

I believe the scope of your research questions is suitable for the purpose of the paper and should yield relevant results for your investigation.

Methods:

Interviewing staff members is an excellent method for surveying the general perception of employees on current business operations. It is advised to keep your primary data sources anonymous to separate employees’ personal opinions and their professional careers, and protect workers’ jobs. Observations of the environment can be explained more clearly to describe which aspects of the work environment you will be analyzing to help you solve the problem at hand.

Qualifications:

Your personal experience as a server show that you have great familiarity with day-to-day operations and current employee perceptions at De Dutch Pannekoek House Burrard Landing. Your academic background in business management also provides excellent reasoning as to why you should be approved to pursue this research project.

Concluding Comments:

Overall, your proposal is very detailed and clearly states how your research could help improve employee morale at De Dutch Pannekoek House Burrard Landing. Your proposal was logical and the problem was conveyed very clearly for readers. It is evident that employees are suffering from current business operations and  that boosting employee morale should be made a priority.
