MEMORANDUM

To: Team Capybara, ENGL 301

From: Yifan Wang, ENGL 301

Date: Oct 20, 2021

Subject: LinkedIn Best Practices

LinkedIn is a website that enables working professionals to demonstrate their profile and network with others.  Here are some best practices for using LinkedIn below, divided in two parts. Hope these can help!

1. Building a professional profile

  • Maintaining a professional tone is important as LinkedIn is not a daily social network.
  • A professional profile photo will increase the odds of your profile being viewed.
  • Headline and summary weigh a lot in LinkedIn’s recommendation algorithms. Including information such as who you are, what you are capable of doing, and what you are looking for could increase your chance of appearing in search results.
  • Using keywords throughout your profile and quantifying your achievements will make it easier for readers to find your strength.
  • LinkedIn Learning is a useful platform to learn new skills.

2. Connect with other professionals

  • Using personalized requests when connecting with other people can show your sincerity.
  • Interacting with other people by liking or commenting on their posts and endorsing their skills could facilitate relationships.
  • Writing recommendations for people you have worked with to help them if they need to find a job, and do not be shy asking recommendation from your connections.
  • Posting more quality contents will gain your exposure.
  • While growing your connections with people in your industry, connecting with people with diverse backgrounds will help you gain new insights.

Hope that these best practices above can help. Please feel free to ask any question!
