Dear Team Potluck,
After extensive research I have complied a list of the 10 best LinkedIn practices. LinkedIn is a business social networking site. These recommendations aim to boost engagement and maximum the potential of LinkedIn. The list is separated into smaller themes.
Profile Management
- Pick engaging and professional profile and background photos. (Deehan)
- Share relevant video and visual content. It is recommended to upload content directly to LinkedIn as opposed to linking to another site. (Fields)
- Use the 411 rule. For every “self-serving post,” share 1 post from another person and 4 related posts. (Fields)
Maximum Engagement
- Use analytics to optimize engagement. (Marx) Understand demographics and who is viewing your profile and posts. (Fields)
- Share relevant context from the LinkedIn feed. (Deehan)
- Create LinkedIn specific contest as opposed to reposting the same material on different social media sites. (Fields)
Networking
- Be strategic with endorsements. Endorse others and highlight the most advantageous endorsements for yourself. (Deehan)
- Publish strategically.(Marx)Post between 2-3 a week but no more than 30 times a month. (Fields)
- Tag strategically. (Marx) Use hashtags relevant to your post as opposed to using trending hashtags. (Fields)
- Build your network. (Deehan) Reach out to contacts in a polite and professional fashion.

LinkedIn is an excellent business networking platform. These suggestions may help in utilizing a few of the many features the site has to offer.
