Feb 8: Completed research proposal report, which had the following details:
- Audience for report: The UBC Campus and Community Planning leadership team, which consists of Gerry McGeough who is the director of planning and design.
- Purpose of Report: The purpose is to research pedestrian cyclist accidents and find a viable solution to increase pedestrian safety on Main Mall at UBC Vancouver.
- Significance of Report: The report can outline a framework for a viable sustainable transportation solution that can increase pedestrian and cyclist safety, which is a core responsibility of the UBC Campus and Community Planning leadership team.
Work in Progress
Research Plan: Conduct research plan, which consists of the following:
- Creating a survey which will consist of open and closed ended questions to gather quantitative and qualitative data regarding pedestrian cyclist accidents from UBC students who walk on Main Mall
- Hosting survey through UBC approved Qualtrics platform
- Researching and using secondary sources which will be the ‘Cycling in Cities’ research program conducted by the UBC School of Population and Public Health who have published studies on cycling and pedestrian safety
Work To Be Completed:
Feb 25-Mar 1: Send survey link to UBC students
Mar 1- Mar 5: Analyze the results from survey and use published studies from ‘Cycling in Cities’ to validate or invalidate results
Mar 5-Mar 15: Complete formal report draft
Mar 17: Peer Review of formal report draft
