Subject: Summary of Research Proposal for Formal Report
Dr. Paterson,
Please note that I have posted my research proposal for a formal report on the “Jake’s Friends” team blog. I have included a copy of the post with this memorandum.
The proposal includes:
- Audience Description – UBC Students Services
- Introduction – Description & importance of financial literacy
- Problem Statement – Failings of existing financial literacy resources
- My Proposed Solution – Increasing the amount and scope of resources
- Scope of investigation – Determining the effectiveness of current resources, suggesting improvements
- Methods of research – Survey, secondary-source research
- My Qualifications – BCom in Finance, personal finance experience
- Conclusions – Summarizes the importance of feasibility of completing such a report
With respect to some of the finance-specific terminology in the proposal, I have provided a short summary of the introduction and problem statement below:
- Financial literacy is a persistent problem with university-aged adults
- Financial products and services have moved to more “direct-advertising”, where young adults are the highest-value customers
- These new offerings include access to risky investments (stocks, options, cryptocurrencies)
- As a result, the cost of financial illiteracy is greater, and the amount of knowledge required to be financially literate is fast-increasing
- My proposed report would outline suggestions to improve financial literacy resources with respect to these trends
Please let me know if you have any questions or comments.
