As a university student, I always have a chance to see an unknown term, especially in Psychology courses where many jargon are used in class and reading materials. Usually, I have to look up the jargon through the dictionary. When I was asked to write a definition of a complex term in my field of study I was quite surprised. It was because I was not confident enough whether I would be able to come up with a correct definition of a Psychological term. Therefore, I would try to find a word that I was familiar with first. Then I would look up information on the library website. When I was writing the definitions, I would try to be as clear and concise as possible. As the audience would be students without prior Psychological knowledge, so I had to be careful not to use jargon which might confuse them.
During the peer review section, I found Barbra’s definition very interesting as her term “Nocturnal Bruxism” sounded like a complicated dental term. However, after I read the definition, it turned out to be a quite common behavior that most of the people would know. It attracted my interest and curiosity. Barbra used a clear and professional tone to write the definition which made the article very easy to understand. Her word choice catered to the level of the audience since the audience did not have any prior knowledge.
After getting the advice from Kevin, I realized that even though I tried to avoid jargon, I still used some jargon in my article. Other than the jargon I used, I still made a few grammatical mistakes.
