The diagram above shows the dimensions of a shot put circle. I captured the image below from a school newsletter. In the newsletter the teachers were thanked for their contribution to the school track team.
I chose these artifacts because they offer evidence of my contribution to the teaching profession. I was a competitive field athlete in high school and I participated in the BC championships in shot put at Swangard stadium in 1992. During the practicum my sponsor teacher was in charge of administering the district shot put competition and because of my knowledge of shot put regulations I was able to assist him in the planning of the event. I also assisted other teachers during track practice to understand both the rules of shot put and the skills required to compete. I choose to place this artifact as an evidence of Standard 8: Educators contribute to the profession because I was able to enrich the school and staff by assisting them coaching shot put. I believe this type of sharing is an essential part of the teaching and learning environment. During my practicum and in my previous practice as an adult educator I tried to reach out to other staff and faculty frequently either to ask for ideas, help with something or to share my own knowledge and understandings.
In my future teaching practice I expect to employ the different skills I have gained over the years to assist other staff members in their own professional development.
