Learning Tools

The following learning tools may be employed when designing to engage in a more critical analysis of housing dynamics in different contexts and at different scales.

1. The Barriers to Accessing Housing

This tool explores the different barriers to accessing housing, and preliminarily links subjects to texts which discuss these issues. Upon further research, this tool will develop to be more comprehensive and informative.

2. Categorising Sources

This tool categorises the sources included in the literature review of Highlighting Housing Inequality based on their research methods, contexts (national, regional, local, and site), and key topics. This tool is to be used in conjunction with the others.

3. Analysis Tool

This tool seeks to engage users in critical questions surrounding equitable housing, to be employed prior to or alongside engaging in any Canadian housing design. Students, as the upcoming generation of designers and architects, must be analytical of housing and informed on the factors that influence housing accessibility in the country. Questions at four scales (national, regional, local, and site) ask key points to encourage research and investigation when doing site analysis. This tool is to be used in conjunction with the others to inform one another.
