UBC Library eResources: Service Bulletins

Links have been patched.
ACS is now back in action (you did miss it, right?), minus a couple titles [_Chemtech_, _Today’s Chemist at Work_, _Chemical Innovation_, _Modern Drug Discovery_]. If you experience any problems, please email us (lib-ejhelp@interchange.ubc.ca). Inquiries are being made into the missing four.

Previously…
ACS [American Chemical Society] has launched a revised publications website. Looks great, but it is causing some problems with our eLink-ing. Some links work fine, others land you on an “ERROR” page. From that error page, you need to take the long road: click on the “ACS Journals A-Z” and find the journal then issue then article from there. Situation is being worked on. Stay Tuned.

The plot thickens…
RSVPN will connect to a MyiLibrary search page from UBC Library’s MyiLibrary information page, but will not connect to anything useful from the OPAC. In other words, via RSVPN you can get into MyiLibrary from our info page and search for a title, but you cannot go directly to that title at the moment. Stay tuned.

Sadly, MyiLibrary doesn’t seem to recognize our Rewriting Proxy Server (RSVPN). We are working to solve the problem. If someone needs to use a proxy and they plan to access MyiLibrary, please advise them to set up VPN. All instructions are here on our Remote Access page.

Persée “is a program which was created for the digital publication of scientific journals in the field of the humanities. The entire printed collection of journals is digitized and published online through a portal which offers access to the collections as well as advanced functionalities which facilitate and enhance use of the portal’s resources.” –website

UBC has many of these journals in print, but not all, and not near to the extent available through this portal. Please check it out.

When doing a Text Search using a very broad term (Panama, for example) with the Statistics box ticked, a very large number of results are returned. This then leads into an error at GMID which says the data may be corrupted. Techs at GMID are working on it. Using narrower search terms (which bring a smaller number of results) seems to be OK. If the database gets worse, please email us at lib-ejhelp@interchange.ubc.ca.
