Two New eResources for Music and Urban Landscape Lovers

Two recent resources have been added to the Library’s list of Indexes & Databases:

Music Online is a portal which provides access to all of UBC library’s Alexander Street Press music databases: Classical Music Library, Classical Reference Library, Classical Scores Library, Garland Encyclopedia of World Music, Opera in Video and Smithsonian Global Sound.

elementsdb catalogues comparably illustrated and measured examples of urban land uses. It is based on the concept that urban form is comprised of replicable elements (or cases)… and it was created by Cynthia Girling and Ronald Kellett, School of Architecture + Landscape Architecture at the University of British Columbia… and it’s FREE!

EZProxy access RESTORED for PHC and VCH sites

After enduring six days of Internet “throttling” and “saturated pipes” resulting in sluggish access to online resources, IT staff from Health Shared Services BC have finally resolved the problem. EZProxy is now working again for UBCers @ St. Paul’s & Vancouver General Hospitals as well as other sites of Providence Health Care & Vancouver Coastal Health.
Many thanks to the UBC Library and HSSBC staff who lobbied for the restoration of acceptable service levels.

American Fisheries Society Journals: Now on InformaWorld

And what does the move mean for accessing the journals? Previously, we had only a 5-year window of access in most cases. Now, we have access back to 1997 for several titles.

American Fisheries Society journals links have been updated and will appear in the ejornal Portal (the ejournal A-Z list) tomorrow.

360 Link: Our New OpenURL Resolver

As part of the implementation of our new Summon discover service (the “Start Here” box on the Library homepage), we are moving to a new OpenURL resolver: 360 Link from Serials Solutions.

What’s this OpenURL business all about? Remember the familiar button? That lead to our old OpenURL resolver SFX and then on to ejournal articles or ebooks.

Our eerily familiar new button leads to our new OpenURL resolver 360 Link. So, the new button works the same, but leads to a better place. Here is an example!

Your citation (in this case for an ejournal article) is at the top. You have a choice of sources for the article. Some links lead to the Article itself, others to just the Journal level. If there is no online access available, you can search the UBC Catalogue. Still nothing? Try InterLibrary Loans. Simple.

While we implement this new software, there will be overlap. So, you will see both the old SFX and the new 360 Link for the next couple weeks.

Questions? Problems? We’re just a Help Form away.
