Found below are hyperlinks to some of my best assignments from this semester. The course covered a number of different types of writing which are sampled below:
Definition Assignment: The definition assignment helped me to understand the different levels of detail that are necessary for different audiences and types of definitions. The goal of this assignment was to define a very technical term with a parenthetical definition, a sentence definition and an expanded definition.
Formal Report Proposal: The report proposal was crucial to organizing my thoughts and methodology before I begun creating my formal report. It did a good job of displaying my intentions for the report to my audience and providing the proposed content of the report in a simple and concise way.
Complaint letters: Through the use of two letters we learned how to properly communicate a complaint. We wrote a complaint letter about a faulty product we had received as well as a bad news letter from the producer of the product that they would be unable to fulfill our request. This assignment taught me how to address a problem in an appropriate and formal tone.

Peer Review: The peer review process was crucial throughout the course to gain an objective view of my work and gain insight from another opinion. This process helped me to become a better writer overall. Below is my peer review of Blaine Smit’s application package. This was a very well written piece and I noted only a few small changes that he could make to perfect his application.

Formal Report: The formal report was the major assignment for the semester in ENGL301. I chose to address the issue of a lack of late- night library space on the UBC campus. Creating this formal report taught me about the proper format of a formal report. This assignment will be very useful for me moving forward in science where formal reports are common.
