Hi everyone,
My name is Mark Pepe. I’m currently in my second term for the MET program and I’m also taking ETEC 510 right now.
I’m an elementary school music educator at two independent schools where I teach K to 7 music, and French. Music includes concert bands, and general music. During a normal year it would include playing percussion instruments, recorder, ukulele, guitar, choir, and jazz band. But the pandemic has made embrace technology, thankfully, I always had a knack for it. I’ve been able to include musical experiments in Chrome Music Lab, and Blob Opera, use Flipgrid to assess French content, and Google Classroom as an LMS. While taking ETEC 523: Mobile and Open Learning last term, a classmate introduced me to BandLab for Education. This was a game changer for me. My students started working with a Digital Audio Workstation and have begun rudimentary sound engineering.
Outside of education, I am a classically trained operatic tenor. I have studied, and performed, across Canada, and in Italy. I am a member of the Vancouver Opera Chorus as well.
ETEC 523 really opened my eyes to the potential of education technology which is why I’m really keen on taking this course. I’m looking forward to working and learning with all of you.
