Hi from HK

Josh here. Though originally from Mississauga, Ontario, I’m currently teaching Physics at Hong Kong International School in HK. I have spent my whole teaching career (9 years) overseas and previous to HK my wife and I taught in Vietnam and S. Korea (where our two children were born). As an educator I am passionate about educational technology, design and creativity. This will be my 5th MET course and first time taking two during the same semester, but hope it’s manageable with summer right around the corner! I am excited to dive into the world of ventures in Ed Tech, as I admire those who’s ideas make significant impact in the field. I look forward to learning with you all.

Hi Josh – I envy your knowledge of Physics. I tried programming a game once with physics and failed miserably! I have met some great students from different K-12 schools through my courses and don’t envy the teaching gig! I do to training and development for faculty and staff at UofT but it’s mostly behind the scenes in e-authoring. Hope to learn more. I have taken 3 courses last summer and due to covid and working from home, i managed Ok. Mind you, I have no family to look after and deal with also.! and work was light last summer.

Interested to know more about ideas in ventures and tools you use to teach students there.!

Luke, glad to hear taking 3 courses was manageable! I have done a fair bit of self-learning with programming and can certainly relate, though once a program or device finally works, what a great feeling that is. Looking forward to hearing about your experiences.

    Hi Josh,
What an eventful decade of travelling and teaching! I travelled to HKIS once, for IASAS dance a lonng time ago. Have you been bouncing around all the international schools? I myself graduated from TAS in Taipei. I would love to hear more about your experiences at all the different schools , how they were similar yet at the same time very different. I intend to return to Asia in a couple years to continue teaching there so it would be great to know what the scene is like nowadays!

Like you, I also prioritize design and creativity in my classes. Looking forward to collaborating with you throughout this course!

    Hi Josh,
HKIS is familiar to me although I have never taught there. My sister taught there for a few years, but it was probably before you started. You must like Asia since you have taught in many different countries. Which country do you like the most so far? I would like to visit Vietnam and S. Korea one day.
Good luck with your 2 courses. Looking forward to learning with you.
