BIO:
As a history teacher, Kai Frazier noticed how her students grasped information digitally; however, technology was lacking. She began documenting monuments and historical sites using her first 360° camera to fulfill the digital divide and enhance students’ learning. In the YouTube video she gives further background as to how KAI XR was born.
Reflection:
I am a big supporter of technology that bridges the digital divide gap. Furthermore, it recognizes inclusiveness and accessibility in education as well. Through her teaching experience, Kai Frazier saw a need for learning and took action hence KAI XR. She has also partnered with T-Mobile to provide WiFi where possible for students who do not have access. KAI XR recognizes the inequity in educational technology and is trying to fill the gap.
I think anything to do with VR is extremely interesting, but many of the apps have a very big entry price in order to get an immersive experience. I know from experience that when I wanted to get VR into the classroom, the district only had 2 headsets that were both unused and not set up for any experiences. Thus, I’m very appreciative of the accessibility that Kai XR gives.
The origin of Kai XR is astounding and rare- Kai, being a teacher herself, saw a need in the way material was being delivered to her students and filled those gaps by creating the digital learning platform for storytelling with VR. Having experienced first hand what it was like in the classroom and the challenges for students to engage in real life experiences through field trips, Kai took it upon herself to begin documenting her experiences and it has now expanded to include worldviews like the pyramids in Egypt. Kai now sits on the board of many prestigious institutions, speaks at events and lends her expertise to close the digital divide. A true inspiration to teachers and entrepreneurs alike.
