Hi everyone! This will be my 4th course in the MET program. I am also taking ETEC511 this semester.
I’ve been documenting my MET Journey at www.educationaltech.ca – my goal for this semester is to post more on it. I have SO many ideas I haven’t yet put up there!
My professional background is very eclectic, but it all kinds of weaves together through themes of “education” & “design”. I have formal education in computer programming, graphic design, as well as my Bachelor of Education & Bachelor of Physical Education from the University of Alberta. I have many years experience in classrooms, mostly teaching the technology courses, as well as experience working at Alberta Education as an ICT consultant with curriculum development. I ran my own web and graphic design company for about 5 years, then after watching teachers, students, and parents all struggle with technology during the pandemic, I decided to enroll in the MET program to hopefully help with this need in education. My goal is to put together online resources for families to manage the SEL (social emotional learning) pieces that are so needed right now in a post-pandemic world. I am hoping this course can help me kick-start the ideas in my head!
A little more about me on a personal level – I was born and raised in Edmonton, we spent 2 years in Santa Monica (my husband was working on League of Legends at Riot Games), before we moved to Vancouver. My husband just started his second video game company this month so we are done with the stress that comes from pitching to investors and he’s on a path to start his new chapter with video game development. He left the first company he started 10 years ago – once they sold it, he spent his time in meetings vs actually making video games so he’s happy to get back to basics again!
I have 2 very busy kids who are active with my favourite sport, volleyball. I played in college and I’m thrilled to be helping coach and watch them enjoy a sport I love so much.
We have one stubborn but adorable Shiba Inu named Bowser (yes, after the Mario Brothers’ games). Here is a photo of the trouble-maker…
I look forward to getting to know everyone in this course!
Hello 🙂
I think your goal for a technology based SEL resource collection is interesting and relevant. I look forward to some updates as you expand your ideas throughout this course and when inspired by other experiences.
