Ektron’s CEO and founder
I chose to look at the growth of EKTRON and particularly focus on the entrepreneurial abilities of its CEO and founder Bill Rogers. Rogers founded Ektron in 1998 and at that time sparked a technology revolution with his first product eWebEditPro which enabled users to easily author and publish content on websites. Ektron’s vision today is to “deliver innovative software that changes the way people experience the web”.
Bill’s forward thinking has been demonstrated in Ektron’ success in building strategic relationships with technology partners and successfully guiding Ektron to becoming a market leader in Web content management with the latest success “web-based HTML editor”. Rogers has co-founded two other successful ventures prior to Ektron – Global Telemedix and Zydacron Inc. during which time he established successful partnerships with investors such as Hewlett Packard Medical Products and IBM.
Ektron has customers across the globe – Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Australia and it focuses on solutions to the specific needs of organizations across those multiple and varied markets.
As I see it, Ektron’s management team possesses a wide range of skills from establishing and maintaining global community of practice hub initiatives to providing innovative solutions for web content creation and management to securing millions of dollars in capital money in less than a 2 year time span.
In addition to the above noted, I would add the following as contributing success factors for Ektron:
– user-centric interface design for its customers and developers
– strong enterprise market strategy
– the world-class partnerships with digital agencies

Leonora,
It’s interesting that this company has been able to raise so much capital in a short period of time! It seems as if their strategy of diversifying into different continents (and taking advantage of emerging markets in developing countries) is certainly paying off.

You make a very good point Deborah – diversification and target market seem to be making a difference in Ektron’s growth. Another success factor according to Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Web Content Management (August 2010) is that Ektron utilizes .NET architecture really well which is a priority choice for online community.
Thanks,
Leonora
