Hi everyone! I’m Wynn Zhang. I was born in Shanghai but moved to Vancouver when I was a youngling. It’s my first semester in the MET program, so I’m super excited! Currently I am taking this course and ETEC 500. It’s been a hard year especially since I finished my Professional Linking Program in Nov 2019; if you don’t factor in my false start as a teacher, I have only been teaching for 4 months. Currently I’m working as a Mandarin Immersion teacher at a middle school and a Career Life Connections 12 teacher at a high school. Before that I was an Education Assistant, an ELL teacher in Shanghai, and a had a short stint as a professional gamer. My partner is at UBC doing her teaching degree right now so it’s also a busy but important time for us.
Since I grew up under the influence of a gaming culture, I recognize the importance of the level of engagement that games, both digital and analogue, provides. I have an extensive collection of various board games that I adapt for my students to learn various topics. I see these games as systems that I can tweak to create a powerful learning experience. This is why I wanted to add mobile devices into the mixture. With mobile technology becoming increasingly more powerful, I want to harness that power and utilize it to create a sustainable, high tech, learning culture.
Other than technology, I’m also into Badminton, Tennis, Snowboarding, and getting involved!
I look forward to expanding my horizons and learning more about everyone!
Here’s hoping for an amazing 2021!
Hello Wynn, you have quite a variety of subjects for teaching and learning! I am an avid (board)gamer and have tried adapting some for the elementary level. I hope to learn more about how you do this iwth middle and high school students. Best of luck with two MET courses this semester.
Hi Evelyne! It’s always great to meet more boardgamers. I would love to share my ideas sometimes.
Wow! It sounds like you have quite the workload. you are very brave for taking two classes at once. Since I am an adult ESL instructor, I am always interested to hear how technology influences students in their ability to learn. I am sure that you have some good stories you may want to share.
Hi Brittany! It not as bad as it sounds. I’m only working 3 days a week (new teacher problems) so I’m only at the each school 1 or 2 days. It definitely makes me want to teach more though!
