I would like to start a conversation about things that we take for granted, on a mobile device. Call it my top five functionalities that I have assimilated into my digital self-extension.
#5 The alarm, the timer, and the stopwatch. I have set my alarms to specific tasks according to certain weekdays and used the timer and stopwatch for keeping project and meetings within their time limitations. These subtle reminders are great for making my day work smoothly.
#4 CameraOn. Be it a twist or a swipe up, the quick access to the camera has turned me trigger happy in many occasions. I almost never bring my actual camera out except in special occasions.
#3 Location reminder. For all that I don’t use data, I love this capability, on my partner’s phone (hee hee). This functionality pings the user when the device’s GPS arrives at that location. What a great moment to be reminded to do that task!
#2 Personalized notification sounds. I have given a lietmotif to each of my friends. My phone now chirps with a vocal identification just as though someone was calling out to me.
#1 Swipe texting. Aside from the occasional giggle, I rely on Swipe texting to get me through the high number of SMS I share in a daily basis.
Here’s my idle chatter on current mobile phone conditions. I am curious- what functionality would you rather not live without?
Hi Evelyne,
I agree with #5. Having that timer on my Home Screen is essential. For all sorts of things, laundry, cooking, and keeping time for activities while teaching. For me, I would have to add Apple’s AirDrop. It’s so convenient to share documents between my devices, and with other people. Fun question, and thanks for posting.
