Codebreaker: Student-friendly ChatGPT

I was shown this website previously from another individual in the MET program, Jeannine Younger, who had noted how this platform is one of the few AI tools that is approved by the Alberta Education. Aside from the brief intro on how I came to contextually find this resource, I have personally tested this in class and found a few valuable insights when it comes to implementing AI in the primary school sector:

(1) Make sure you preface use prior to teaching a task with it.
This is exceptionally important for students to recognize that AI is a valuable tool, but it is not an be-all-end-all. That their responses still needs to show originality and that they must be able to respond to it in a personalized contextual manner, to give depth into their response, and to truly bring ownership to their ideas.

(2) Students should constantly evaluate / cross-reference the results.
For younger students, this proves to be difficult, in which unless the student has built a great wealth of links to the topic at hand or is adept to whichever given learning objective that is the focus of a specific lesson, they will default use the ChatGPT response as what is ‘correct’.

(3) Recognize the collaborative power of AI.
AI is a tool that is built on the wealth of knowledge of others. It is so vital to acknowledge sources and to recognize the hard effort that exist beyond building towards new knowledge and frontiers.

Very interesting! I haven’t heard of this before. I feel like this could be a great source for when students just need some background information / basic context on a subject. Thank you for the share!
