Tools, Communication, Privacy

Studying new and old educational media and tools requires some familiarity with those most widely used for internet-based communication and exchange. However, since many/most of those popular systems use servers outside Canada, this external storage of information places at risk an individual’s rights to the protection of their privacy. For this reason, UBC urges students to use FIPPA Compliant tools.

See https://ets.educ.ubc.ca/learning-technologies/learningtechandprivacy/

In. this course, for the reasons explained above, you will not be required to use any specific tool (or email, or alias). No grades or other personal info or feedback will be “posted” online; all of that will be communicated to you individually.

We will be using Slack for course communications, information updates, to engage with the whole group, small groups, or individual communication.

And we’ll use Zoom for any synchronous meetings (none required—but if you need help…), and the final presentation meeting at the end of the term.

For your small group project work, or any other class meetings, you can use whatever application works for you.

You are asked to submit all your work for this course online, using a website you have already created, or one you will create specifically for this course (it can be taken down at the end of the term. You can also use UBCblogs, at blogs.ubc.ca

For any other questions or concerns about course communications and technologies please contact the course instructor.
