Onward!

Thank you everyone for a wonderful workshop!
First, take a moment to reflect: What will you do as a facilitator going forward following this workshop? Please share in the comments below
Second, please provide feedback on the workshop
Thanks again everyone! See also images of the flipcharts posted below
I see a lot of potential for personal growth as a facilitator of fISW!
What I will do differently going forward from my last fISW:
1) I will communicate high expectations for online participation by emphasizing the value-added to the workshop as a whole and incorporating online responses to lessons/theme sessions;
2) I will set and highlight deadline for online participation, so I’m not incorporating online responses to f2f session last minute.
3) I will be more mindful and intentional in designing a coherent online to f2f lesson plan, ie. asking guiding questions with clear and simple language.
I will definitely try doing a blended theme session in my next ISW. I’d like to try designing a new module.
As a ISW Facilitator, I definitely want to incorporate Flexible Learning. I see the potential for it to both the participants and myself in terms of sustaining engagement, enthusiasm, and energy levels. I do have to think about what my presence will be in this space. For example, I like the idea of leaving it for peer-to-peer engagement, but the ice-breaker/coffee-shop in the beginning, I would want to say ‘hi’ to the participants.
Following the workshop, I’ll be checking out the Blended Toolkit and looking forward to trying some of this out in my next ISW. I’ll also be doing more thinking about how to use online and F2F spaces to support learning in ways that capitalize on the distinctive strengths and capacities of each. And hopefully enjoying more opportunities to learn from others’ experience with this. Thanks everyone!
Thanks for an enjoyable 2 hr workshop. Great to participate in the harvest of ideas for using flexible learning for ISW.
I’ll go back to discuss with colleague the ways it can be used especially to prep participants with the technology, help with clarity around what’s expected in the course (especially workload or commitment) and some community building. These aspects can make or break a course and would work well to start on them before the class actually meets (f2f or as an online group).
Thanks again for the invitation.
Thanks to all the great UBC staff for the invitation and workshop. Having just facilitated an ISWO last fall, it was nice to hear how the ISW is evolving through a blended and flexible approach. I am looking forward to developing a blended ISW and piloting it with our community later this year. Lots of ideas to also suggest to our faculty interesting in developing their f2f courses with flexible learning.
Many thanks to Jason and Lucas for making this major update a reality. As a recent facilitator for a Faculty ISW, I really enjoy the flexibility it offers and how it fits the needs of our participants.
I realize that I will need to re-design many ‘stock’ theme sessions, but this is going to be fun and rewarding to development something useful for our participants.
Moving forward, my first priority is to lean WordPress so that I no longer need to reply on support from Lucas.
I intend to use a flex ISW format for the next ISW I facilitate, using the ideas generated and discussed during the workshop as guidance. The workshop has allayed many of my apprehensions about incorporating flex learning into the ISW by demystifying the processes for doing so and pointing to some valuable resources and supports. Excited to give it a try!
Thank you!
