This study sought to address the following research questions:
- What initiatives have been undertaken to measure the health of Canadian communities and what measures and approaches have been used?
- What initiatives have been undertaken in other relevant countries (i.e., US, Europe, Australia) to measure the health of communities and what measures and approaches have they used?
- How can community-level health indicators be distinguished from other types of health indicators (i.e., individual-specific indicators)?
- How are community-level health indicators presently being incorporated into policy and program decision-making through shared responsibility and collaborative actions across sectors?
- What lessons for policy making and program planning can be learned from examining the collection of community health indicators in Canada and elsewhere?
