By the end of this class you should be able to:
- Define key concepts and frameworks on gender, race and sexuality in relation to security, militarism, displacement, climate change, and post-conflict reconstruction.
- Comprehend the challenges and opportunities of implementing international frameworks into national and local contexts, and the ways such frameworks are politicised.
- Develop a clear understanding of the ethical role and responsibilities of the researcher, policy maker and journalist to people living through periods of political violence and its aftermaths.
- Embrace your inner feminist!
Pedagogically, we will take a multi-modal approach to learning, and practice feminist reflexivity, care and relational learning in the classroom.
This is a reading-intensive course. The majority of learning will be done in the seminars and therefore requires thorough preparation of notes based on readings before class.
