About Us

Alison Fung
Alison is a 4th year Environment and Sustainability major in Geography, with interests in climate change and natural resource management. She has furthered her environmental interests by working for Environment Canada’s Canadian Wildlife Service, and the Municipality of Delta. She is currently the co-coordinator the Campaigns team for Common Energy (student-led environmental group), and a volunteer at the David Suzuki Foundation. In these positions, Alison has worked on a stakeholder engagement strategy, community-based social marketing, and consulted with local governments and First Nation Bands. She is very excited to work on an access management plan for the William’s Lake Community Forest, and to be able to contribute to the sustainability of William’s Lake.

Julia Wakeling
Julia is a 4th year Environment and Sustainability student within the Department of Geography. She also studies visual arts and conservation photography. She has spent two summers working with Conservation Strategy Fund, a natural resource conservation non-profit. She is also an editor for Trail Six, the geography undergraduate student journal and has been working with UBC’s sustainable student food co-op, Seedlings, for the duration of her time as a student there. Her main interests include sustainable natural resource management and community based environmental planning. She is looking forward to putting her prior knowledge to use working with the Alex Fraser Research Forest and learning more about community centred sustainable engagement.

Donna Liu
Donna is 3rd year student doing a dual degree with a bachelor in environment and sustainability and a masters of management in business. Through her studies, she has developed a deeper interest in sustainable agriculture, resource management and social responsibility. Her other passions include pottery, photography and different forms of visual art. With the potential to combine her academic studies and artistic passions, she hopes to explore the ways that creative methodologies can be used in geographical research and presentations. This will be Donna’s first time working on a community-based project and she looks forward to learning from her engagement with the Williams Lake Community Forest.

Ernielly Leo
Nelly is a 3rd year student pursuing a degree in Global Resource System from the faculty of Land and Food System. She is interested in equitable resource management and sustainable development. Particularly of her interest is studying asset based community development and applying it to different projects and community groups. She’s been fortunate enough to experienced working with communities in the internationals context and is looking forward to working locally while learning from a group of talented students who are gifted in various fields.
