Application of Ideas

Is there anything we can do to help minimize the effects of global warming?

In this section, you will:

  • Apply what you have learned to the test.
  • Create and carry out a plan to answer this question: What can you do to have a positive impact on the local environment?

Activity: Local Environment Improvement Plan

Step 1:

Create a plan that will have a positive impact on your local environment (i.e. plants and animals). The plan must:

  • Explain what the problem is with the local environment and how it relates to global warming.
  • Include steps to be carried out by you in an attempt to improve the local environment.
  • Predict what you think the outcome might be after you carry out the plan.
  • Explain your reasoning behind the prediction.

See the Local Environment Improvement Plan Rubric for this activity.

Activity: Discussion

Post your plan, prediction and explanation in the comment area below and provide feedback to 2 or more of your peers’ posts.

See the Grade 4 Online Discussion Rubric for participating in the discussions.

Step 2:

After you have discussed your plan, prediction and explanation with your peers, you will need to:

  • Carry out the plan with adult supervision.
  • Record your observations while you carry out the plan.

When you are finished carrying out the plan, compare the prediction with the observation notes and consider the similarities and differences.

When you are ready, please continue on to the next activity.
