Pub Club November 1st

Standard

The intent of this event is to facilitate grad students in nursing to get together over drinks to chat about ideas – what to publish, how to publish, and perhaps whether some people want to work together to publish. This Tuesday’s event will hopefully be the first of many – we hope to get together monthly – and we’ll start by hearing from fellow students with experience publishing about first steps to publication and discuss what we’d like to accomplish over the next couple of months.

What: Drinks, Introductions, Chat about pearls and pitfalls of publishing
When: TUESDAY November 1, 2011 at 5pm (to 6:30pm)
Where: Mahoney’s (on Campus – University Blvd. and Wesbrook Mall)
Why: Get to know some grad students in nursing outside your year and programme and collaborate to contribute to nursing knowledge!
Hope to see you there!

Inaugural meeting

Standard

Thank you to all who have already responded with interest to the initial email about the UBC Graduate Students in Nursing Association (GSNA)!

If you are interested in attending the inaugural meeting, it will be on Tuesday, October 18th at 4:15pm in the grad lab. We aim to be very respectful of the many demands on everyone’s time and keep meetings to a minimum, both in frequency and duration. Typically, the executive will be the only ones meeting, but in these early stages, we need to establish a process to form an executive, determine our strategic directions as an association and articulate some short-term goals to get us started. So, anyone is welcome to meet who is interested in hearing more about what the GSNA is doing, sharing ideas about what the GSNA could do, or who already knows they are interested in being involved (perhaps on the executive). This conversation is open to all grad students in nursing at UBC. No need to RSVP, just come as you are! We will aim to finish be 5pm and will adjourn at 5:15 at the latest.

We are aware that many graduate students are not anywhere near campus (or even the Lower Mainland). We would be happy to arrange teleconference by Skype if anyone needs to attend from a distance. Please email us with your skype name so we can be on each other’s contact list prior to Tuesday’s meeting.

Hope to see you on Tuesday!

UBC GSNA needs you!

Standard

The purpose of the GSNA is to create opportunities for engagement for graduate students in the UBC School of Nursing, and to serve as a resource for advocacy and communication among students, faculty, administration and community.

MEMBERSHIP

Status as a graduate nursing student at the UBC School of Nursing automatically entitles students to membership in GSNA. There are no membership dues. Members are eligible to participate in all GSNA events, activities and service opportunities.

COMMUNICATION

GSNA members voluntarily share their contact information with the GSNA Board. Email will be the primary means of communication, and students who elect not to share their contact information may not otherwise be notified of information, opportunities for providing input, or events that are being made available through the GSNA.

In order to receive communication from the UBC GSNA about events and opportunities to provide feedback on issues related to graduate studies in the school of nursing, please email ubcgsna@gmail.com by Friday, October 14, 2011. Please indicate which class (program and year) you are in.

Call for volunteers

Standard

As this is our inaugural year, all UBC graduate students in nursing are invited to volunteer on the GSNA Executive. We recognize that the structure of the executive is evolving and will be ratified when an executive is in place. The executive needs members to volunteer in the areas of communication, event planning, and program representatives, especially from Master’s programmes. If you are interested in serving on the executive for the GSNA, please email us: ubcgsna@gmail.com by Friday, October 14, 2011.

Statement of Purpose

Standard

The primary purpose of the Graduate Students in Nursing Association (GSNA) is to provide an organized voice for graduate nursing students within the School of Nursing and greater university community. GSNA represents the collective interest of UBC graduate students in nursing, organizes activities with the goal of enriching our experience of graduate education in nursing, and contributes the perspectives of graduate nursing students about School of Nursing aims. GSNA also promotes engagement and collegiality among graduate students in nursing with faculty, staff, and the broader university community.
