There has been lots of talk about President Trump’s current decisions in regards to gender equality. I recently read an article written by Jacob Bernstein that brought to light the issue of President Trump’s rescinded federal protections for transgender students. The article was a plea from Isabel Rose, the mother of an 8 year older TRANSGENDER child, who reaches out to Ms. Trump in hopes of motivating her to take a stand on behalf of parents like herself.

Chapter 2 of the textbook focuses on personality, perception, and emotions. Perception can specifically be explained as “The process by which individuals organize and interpret their impressions in order to give meaning to their environment” (Organization Behavior Concepts, Controversies, Applications). President Trump seems to have a negative perception of transgenderism, this could be due to the attribution theory which has to do with how individuals judge others differently, depending on the meanings that are given to certain behaviors.

The word TRANSGENDER can be defined as “denoting or relating to a person whose sense of personal identity does not correspond with the gender assigned to them at birth” (Merriam-Webster). Since Trump struggles to relate to a transgender he sees them as a “threat” instead of trying to understand the daily struggles that they deal with.

Over the years TRANSGENDERS have begun to make progress in society as the LGTBQ community has only continued to grow as the world begins to see them through a different lens. But since Trump’s rain of presidency, there has been major set-backs starting with his rescind of federal protections for transgender students.

Hopefully in the 4 years to come of Trump’s reign he will soon realize the importance of equality and acceptance of one’s sexuality.
