Earlier this morning I was on facebook when a link for an article caught my eye. The article was titled “Here’s Why The Internet Is Going Pink Today.” Now I was slightly confused, how could the internet possibly have a distinct color? What this meant was that “Planned Parenthood supporters are going all out with a show of support for reproductive rights and the health care organization at the front lines — by turning the internet PINK” (Here’s Why The Internet Is Going Pink Today).
Since the day I learned the work PINK I have always associated it with girls. It’s not that I think anything less when a male wears a pink shirt. Just do to gender stereotypes girls were associated with PINK and boys were always blue.
Chapter 5 of the textbook emphasizes the importance of communication, sepcifically focusing on in order to achieve effective communication one must follow the communication process. The communication process is made up of eight key conponents; (1) the sender, (2) encoding, (3) the message, (4) the channel, (5) decoding, (6) the receiver, (7) noise, and (8) feedback.
I understand the use of trying to fight back against this issue over social media and the internet. Thus making society more aware of the issues at stake, but by doing so it can go against the communication process and sometimes send the wrong message.
