Not long ago I was shocked to discover that one of my all-time idols Alexandra Shulman was stepping down from her position as editor-in-chief of the British edition of Vogue. At this time, I learned that Shulman was the longest serving editor-in-chief in British Vogue history and that she was “one of the most of-quoted voices of fashion trends.” My question is who is brave enough to follow her and fill her shoes and will the next generation of British Vogue live up to her legacy?

Shulman was born on November 13, 1957 which classifies her as a baby boomer. Chapter 3 discusses the values and attitudes of different generations such as; baby boomers, millenniums, generation X, and generation Y. The book states that baby boomers dominant work values include traits such as; loyalty, ambition, driven, dislike of authority, successful, etc. All of these attributes, in my opinion, describe Shulman and her 25 years of hard work.

When thinking about who should take over her position I believe that an individual from the generation of millennials would be best suited. They have dominant work values that include traits such as; confident, technologically smart, loyal, self-reliant but also team oriented.

The article, The Changing Faces of Vogue, states that “Shulman was able to maintain a steady print circulation … in a shrinking market, but a new social media-savvy editor-in-chief could help accelerate British Vogue’s evaluation for a digital world.” I 100% believe in that statement and hope for Vogue’s sake that they will be able to find an individual that will allow them to grow just how years a Shulman allowed the magazine to grow over the time she was in charge.
