It has been one year since we lost our dear friend and colleague, Dr. Clyde Hertzman, who passed away suddenly in February 2013. On March 17th, 2013 Clyde’s family, friends and colleagues gathered together for an afternoon of song and speaches at Clyde’s celebration of life held at UBC’s Chan Centre. A Clyde Hertzman Legacy Fund has been established to continue Dr. Hertzman’s vision of thriving children and families.  The Fund will support community initiatives and research that strengthen children’s social and emotional development.

Dr. Clyde Hertzman, founding director of the Human Early Learning Partnership, passed away suddenly in February 2013. On March 17th, 2013 Clyde’s family, friends and colleagues gathered together for an afternoon of song and speaches at Clyde’s celebration of life held at UBC’s Chan Centre.

In the days, weeks and months that followed Clyde’s death the Human Early Learning Partnership received an overwhelming number of condolences and tributes from Clyde’s friends, colleagues, community supporters, academic institutions and news media. In response, we complied these rememberances into a book of remembrances honouring his life and work. We welcome any further contributions below. For those wishing to make a financial contribution in Clyde’s memory a Legacy Fund has also been established in his honour.

Population & Public Health Research Milestone Award

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research-Institute of Population and Public Health (CIHR-IPPH), in partnership with the Canadian Public Health Association (CPHA), recently announced the winners of the inaugural Population and Public Health Research Milestones Initiative. SPPH Professors Morris Barer, Clyde Hertzman, and colleagues including Centre for Health Services and Policy Research Faculty member Robert Evans were recognized for their book, Why Are Some People Healthy and Others Not?
