We used 5 brassica cultivars for this experiment, based on the previous crop selections the UBC farm managers had made. We used UBC farm seeds that have been saved from previous crops at the farm.
1) Ruby Streaks – Ruby streaks was by far the easiest cultivar to pick out from the rest, due to it’s unique colour.
2) Mizuna – the Mizuna performed surprisingly well in such a short growing period. This is our season extension crop of choice, as it managed to put out the biggest plants.
3) Sueh Li Hung #2 – Sueh Li Hung is one of UBC farms own cultivars. This cultivar had the 3rd largest average plant size.
4) Surrey Arugula – Surrey arugula was one of the two types of actual arugula we grew. It had the 2nd largest average plant size of all the cultivars.
5) Astro Arugula – Astro is the other arugula cultivar we grew in our experiment.
