Chart 1 shows the average daily air temperature data from March 4th to April 1st for 2013 and the past five years. It shows the variation in daily average air temperatures for March of each year as well as the difference in the averages between the years. The average daily air temperature from March 4th to April 1st of each year are as follows:
2008: 5.400 Celsius
2009: 4.074 Celsius
2010: 7.771 Celsius
2011: 6.646 Celsius
2012: 5.585 Celsius
Past 5 Year Average: 5.8952 Celsius
2013: 7.177 Celsius
March of 2010 had the warmest average while March of 2009 had the coldest average; however, the average air temperature in 2013 is 1.2818 Celsius warmer than past five year average.
Chart 2 shows the average daily air temperatures from March 4th to April 1st over the past 5 years, indicated by the blue line, the highest average daily air temperature for each date over the past 5 years, indicated by the green line, the lowest average daily air temperature for each date over the past 5 years, indicated in the orange line, and the average daily air temperature of March 2013, indicated by the red line.
We could conclude that:
1. The average daily temperature from March 4th to April 1st in 2013 fluctuated around the average daily temperature seen for those dates over the past 5 years, indicating that March 2013 was more or less a normal year relative to the past 5 years.
2. The data of 2013 occasionally surpasses the past 5 year highest daily temperature data, we could infer that this year is slightly warmer than usual.
3. Overall, the year of 2013 is a year with normal to slightly warmer air temperature from March 4th to April 1st comparing to the past 5 year average temperature.
Chart 3 shows the air temperatures recorded inside the hoop house and outside of the hoop house from March 7, 2013 to March 18, 2013. This data is meant to show the extent to which a hoop house benefits plant growth through the increase in air temperatures from early to mid March.
