Recommendations for UBC farm
1) We would recommend that the UBC farm starts growing baby brassica greens in hoop houses in order to extend their productive season.
2) Our results indicate that growing Mizuna is the best choice for early season cultivation inside the hoop house, as it grew the largest plants on average.
Recommendations for further research
1) We recommend that further research projects study brassica green cultivars other than the five that are currently grown at the UBC Farm. This could determine if their are other cultivars that are as successful as mizuna for early season production in a hoop house. If other cultivars are particularly cold resistant, they may perform better than mizuna, which could increase the profitability of season extension.
2) Despite our best efforts, the data collected from the hoop house was incomplete. We would recommend that a complete climate data set be collected during trials for other cultivars (as proposed above), in order to compile a definitive data set on climate differences between the inside and the outside of the hoop house.
