My Name is Huy Nguyen and I’m currently attending UBC as an unclassified student to enhance my professional development. I completed a Bachelors of Science Degree in 2012 and have been working as a Registered Kinesiologist since I graduated. I currently work at Lynn Valley Physiotherapy out in North Vancouver and hopefully end up being a Physiotherapist in the future.
During my time as an undergraduate student, I had the opportunity to work and volunteer in a variety of settings related to my degree. Being a part of the school community was an important part of my education and allowed me to network within my field. I spent the early part of my undergrad managing sports leagues for recreation and working with student athlete as a team trainer. I volunteered at different rehabilitation clinics to get a better grasp of the environment in which they worked in. Following the volunteer programs, I decided to get my personal training certification, allowing me to work with people one-on-one and giving me a head start on what I’m currently doing today.
As I continued to volunteer in various clinics and worked more with people one-on-one, I realized that I wanted to go into the field of rehabilitation. Being hands on and active was another component that I wanted in my career and I felt like going down the path I did, I’m closer to where I want to be today. My last endeavour would be getting into Physiotherapy school and continuing to help people with their injuries.
