Within the image

Assignment

Create a series of images that exploring their internal possibilities: as in our previous works we will disrupt the expectations but in this case we will look further and try and explore/expose/create some narratives within our images.

Objectives

This is a continuation of the ideas from last week’s assignment- the goal is to continue training our sight, to further our awareness of the way we see and perceive (in a broad sense) the image-world around us.

Suggestions:

1. If we acknowledge that images mediation results in them showing as much as they hide, What is hidden behind the image?

(Another way of thinking about this is the familiar experience of a vague longing for an image that has been removed or displaced. What remains is not just the absence but more like a ghostly presence that dissolves only with time)

2. Through the exemplary experiments by Etienne Jules Marey and Aedward Muybridge we revisited the moment when technical images started to move, and thus incorporate time, which Flusser calls ‘the extra dimension’. Consider incorporating it in your work.
