Crisis in Syria

It’s been all over the news lately, the flooding of Syrian refugees into European countries, trying to escape the horrors of their home town. These countries are trying to help send aid and take in refugees, but the cost of housing and looking after them are causing a real strain on countries’ resources and money supply. Germany, for example plans to take in close to 1 million refugees, and set aside $6 billion euros for housing these refugees.

Yes, if you are the government, your morality tells you to help these people as best as you can. But at the same time, for most governments, their first priority is to look after their own people. Meanwhile, they must consider what their people will think, how they will react, and what racial and religious issues which will occur in its society? If you have a dominant white and Christian population, how do you assimilate the Muslim religion into your culture? These are all questions the government must take into consideration. Some countries must take drastic measures to try and stop these refugees as they simply cannot support all these people. Hungary has been the latest country to close its borders. Personally, I believe that the first step to combating this issue is to first end and fix the problems in Syria, then work on getting the Middle Eastern countries that border Syria to help with aid, as it should not be all up to the West to solve these issues. If the European leaders do not come up with a plan to combat this issue, people will continue to flood the borders.
