Newly Imposed Business Ethic: Social Networking!

Upon starting to write my first blog post, I realized that I’m unaware of what business ethics truly meant.  So, I took the liberty of searching it up and Wikipedia states it as “a form of professional ethics that examines ethical principals that arise in a business environment” (Wikipedia, 2011).

In my words,

Business Ethics: a set of values that a business has to maintain professionalism

Social media has become a vital part of not only the business industry, but also to other industries in the world.  Facebook, Twitter, to name a few, has integrated themselves into the daily lives of the working population.  In 2010, it is reported that more than half of UK’s workers use social networking sites during office hours and “could be costing the economy up to £14 billion per year” (D. Warburton Search Copywriter, 2010).

The main issue here is that employees are taking some of their supposedly work time to keep “followers” updated on their not-so-private lives.  They’re not only cheating their way along with their paychecks, but also hindering the companies’ plans of improved productivity after the recession.  And in order to retain their business ethics, companies should abide stricter regulations about social networking usage.
