Should I Lie to Help the Company?

Many companies nowadays are under pressure to declare bankruptcy due to the financial crisis. Recently a publishing company asked their workers to write false book reviews in order to boost up sales. Those who opposed the idea were put into the jeopardy of losing their job.

By posting positive reviews on web sites where the company’s books are sold, the corporation would gain the trust of customer, thus increasing their number of sales. This can be a major concern for the consumers online who normally judge a book by its review. The company’s strategy to overcome their financial affair is clearly unethical.

I personally think that the company is selfish for putting its profit over their customers. A successful business is all about the relationship between customers and suppliers . Writing false comments does not violate any law, but it does offend the web site policies. Nevertheless, it is not right to deceive a client with an action that may be legal.
