Biography

My name is Jiajie Xu, student who is currently enrolling in Earth and Environmental Science major, University of British Columbia. I am going to become a fourth-year student by the Fall of 2020. I have achieved the advanced diploma of Environmental Technology program from Centennial College in Toronto. In order to engage in advanced studies in the same field, I decided to come to UBC to receive further education since last year. The EESC major in UBC is mainly focus on the knowledge on geological and environmental aspects, which is strongly related to our nature in this planet. By linking our major to different fields of science such as physics, chemistry, biology and so on, that will come up a big picture which showing us how our environment system works by observing it from different academic aspects.

As a scholar and one of the global citizens, I wish one day I can apply my knowledge to make contribution to our beautiful Earth in practice. This is the main reason that I chose to major in this field. And dedicating for the goal to become a scientist. My academic interests are mainly on hydrological aspect. In my third-year study, I took courses on limnology and fluvial geomorphology, which have not only brought me knowledge but also lighted up my passion on scientific studying and researching. All those lectures, labs and field trips have left deep impress on my memories and help me gain valuable experience on my study.

For the longer-term goal, I would like to seek for a place that can bring me chance to rehabilitate those environments which have been damage by human activities. I personally believe that human being ought to take over their responsibilities on some of the environmental change and this will make the world a better place as we all work on this collaboratively.
