Back to the basics..

Finals are here, and and i bet everyone is busy studying.

Even after the course, i figure out it’s still a good way to update the marketing blog, and today since i’m studying marketing, i want to talk about all the fundamental things that I learnt from the course.

First of all, I want to talk about the what’s marketing again, all the fundamental which would also help me preparing for my exam. So marketing consists of all activities designed to generate and facilitate any exchange intended to satisfy human needs or wants. More simply put in business terms, activities designed to plan, price, promote and distribute products or services to target markets. Up next come the marketing 4Ps, which I think are what Tamar talk about all semester long.

The 4 P’s of marketing are listed below.

Product – the products or services you offer and are they unique, superior, easier to use

Price – how much to sell your products for, based on your cost and value to potential customers

Promotion – communicating to potential customers to create an awareness of your business

Place – your business location and methods of distributing your products

Why do we need marketing after all, it is because marketing is our method of communicating to people that your company, product or service exists. It’ no use having the best product in the world if nobody knows about it or about everyone else.

So I hope everyone get a goooood mark on their finals, and before publishing this post, I want to share some funny facts that I found online that are all about marketing:

-Most purchasing decisions are made in the unconscious.

-Your marketing can be twice as effective if you aim it at both right-brained (emotional, aesthetic) and left-brained (logical, sequential) people. The North American population is about evenly divided, so if you use only one approach, half your advertising budget will be wasted.

-Getting a person to say yes to a sale works best if you establish momentum first with lesser questions to which it is easy to answer yes.

“that got my attention” too

so after i posted a post about online advertisement, and I was looking around other students’ posts, i found that Randy’s article was a close topic to mine.

here is the link : https://blogs.ubc.ca/randygrewal/

the article talks about a web hosting compand and internet domain resgistar with advertisement that always wow the audiences. As i watched the videos which Randy posted, just like how Randy mentioned them, they gain my attention with the sexual contents. I totally agree with what Randy said in his article about the way that Go Daddy.com create its advertisement. Since the advertisements are usually played during Super Bowl, or other events consist of mostly male audiences, it is a fast and smart way to have their advertisement stand out in this way.

so i think that sometimes it is fine to create some ads that’s not so appropriate in front of the television but that are shown in other special circumstances. Not only do people memorize the ads easily, it is also a good way to promote the company therefore generate more potential customers.

at the end, i would like to post some more Go Daddy ads:

ChristmaX

It’s the time of the year again, yeah!

The stores are starting to prepare for Christmas with crazy sale and different types of advertising emails are coming in. Christmas is a crucial time for many business to boost their sales and generate a huge amount of revenue.

Today I want to dicuss the topic of web marketing. As I read on a newspaper billions of dollars are spent in online advertising during December as fortunes are made and lost. In the world of web marketing, Christmas is a period of creative overdrive as we try to woo the people who have saved their peenies and looneys and entiice them to buy different products as the ultimate gift for someone they love. It can also be a very sad time for people as they struggle through many ads convincing them that they must buy this or that to prove that they love someone. Since Christmas is more like a Western thing, some people from other cultures may be offended at the sight of all the Xmas images and ad copy littering the Internet, so company have to be careful when designing their ads.

Free shipping and free gifts might be a big attraction for all the online shoppers, since everyone wants to get the most out of their products with the lowest cost. So if company can afford to provide it, they should definitely consider it. Furthermore, gift cards and certificates are also different options for online shoppers. People might become loyal customers to the company and they will not only come back to shop during Christmas time but also during normal time.It is tempting for webmasters and site owners to take out huge marketing campaigns with pay-per-click search engines leading up to Christmas. If this is an area that is new to you, proceed with caution. Pay per click can be very productive but can also turn into a financial black hole if you aren’t careful. So company should be clear with payment option on their website.

Meanwhile..

Finally, the second wave of midterms have ended, and finally I have time to update my lovely marketing blog.

I kinda want to talk about the Apple Iphone4 today, because I just got my Iphone4 about 2 weeks ago. Cheers. To me, purchasing a Iphone is the kind of decision that is mostly influenced by the people around me. Many of my friends are using either Iphone or Blackberry. For people going for Iphone, apps and facetime are the two main reasons; and for people going for Blackberry, bbm is the main reason.

So reference group or peer pressure is really a key thing for marketing among teenagers. Reference groups have an influence on purchasing behavior, but the level of influence will depend on where the product will be consumed-in public or in private-and whether the product is a want or a need. If we properly advertise the product as a cool item and a hit item to have among friends, that product may therefore become popular. Social norms have an impact on the behaviour of consumers in the marketplace. All behavior is driven by some motivating force and the motivating force that drives purchasing behavior is social acceptance. In other words, consumers are often influenced in their purchasing decisions by whether or not they believe that a particular purchase will or will not lead to social acceptance among their friends or groups.

Let’s get started

Since i was kinda busy preparing for midterms, I have paused for 2 weeks without any new post.

This is a funny topic pops out right out of my mind when I’m writing this blog. There are many fake brands in China and everyone knows it. However, since they are cheap to buy/produce, many people in China are still willing to buy those products. In a marketing point of view, people do know the original brands, but since many people in China cannot offer to buy them so they buy fake ones instead.

Here are some of the photos which might give you a laugh:

As you can see there are tons of names for Nike, and even Starbucks, McDonalds, and PizzaHut can be fake =]

HELLO PEOPLE HELLO MY FRDS.

Hey guys, this is my first blog post, i guess i will just introduce myself . My first name is John, and my last name is Ren, and you guys can now access to my favorite marketing blog by clicking https://blogs.ubc.ca/johnrencomm296 . I graduated from J.N. Burnett Secondary which is in Richmond, and I like to do sports/hang out with my friends in my spare time.

This is marketing blog after all, so i guess i will talk about some marketing stuff. The first thing that pops out in my mind is “What is good marketing”, because it’s important to understand this concept before we even start to marketing something. To me, i think good marketing is not about spending as much money as you can on on advertising. There are many little crucial things we need to take notice of such as the target market or what we call the potential consumers, as well as coming up with the right strategy to position ourselves. The most important thing is to research, research, and research before we do any marketing, and that is what i called “good marketing”
